Neurodevelopmental Evaluations
Neurodevelopmental Evaluations

A comprehensive ADHD and/or learning disability evaluation is a thorough, evidence-based assessment designed to accurately identify Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), learning disorders, and other factors that may be affecting attention, academic performance, and daily functioning. This process goes far beyond brief screening and follows diagnostic standards established by the American Psychiatric Association and criteria outlined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-V).

The evaluation includes a detailed semi-structured clinical interview, collateral reports, review of developmental, educational, and psychosocial history, and standardized rating scales to assess attention, executive functioning, and emotional regulation. Formal cognitive, executive functioning, memory, and academic testing is conducted to evaluate intellectual functioning (IQ), learning and achievement skills (such as reading, writing, and math), processing speed, working memory, and other executive functioning abilities. This allows for accurate identification of ADHD, specific learning disorders, or other cognitive and psychological factors that may impact performance.

The assessment also includes screening for related conditions such as anxiety, bipolar, depression, trauma, and sleep difficulties, ensuring a comprehensive and accurate understanding of each individual’s strengths and challenges. Following the evaluation, patients receive a detailed feedback session and written report outlining diagnostic findings and personalized recommendations. This report can support treatment planning, medication management, academic or workplace accommodations (such as 504 Plans/IEP or accommodations for standardized testing), and targeted interventions to improve functioning and success.

This comprehensive evaluation provides clarity, diagnostic accuracy, and a clear path forward, serving as the foundation for effective, individualized support and long-term success.

Specialty Evaluations
Other Evaluations

Dr. Phan also provides comprehensive N-648 disability evaluations, a specialized service that is deeply meaningful in serving diverse and immigrant communities. The N-648, issued through the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), is a medical certification that may exempt eligible individuals from certain naturalization testing requirements when a medical, neurological, or psychiatric condition significantly impairs their ability to learn, remember, or communicate information.

These evaluations involve a careful and respectful assessment of cognitive, emotional, and psychiatric functioning, including conditions such as trauma-related disorders, anxiety, depression, neurocognitive conditions, and other mental health or medical factors that may affect memory, concentration, or learning capacity. Dr. Phan approaches this process with clinical thoroughness, cultural sensitivity, and a deep understanding of the complex experiences many immigrants and refugees have endured.

Dr. Phan also greatly enjoy conducting military and pre-PCS (Permanent Change of Station), which are specialized psychological evaluations designed to ensure that service members are psychologically prepared for reassignment, deployment, or transition to a new duty station. These evaluations are often requested to support readiness, continuity of care, and the overall wellbeing of the service member and their family. A PCS move can involve significant changes, including new operational demands, geographic relocation, family adjustments, and shifts in support systems. A psychological evaluation helps clarify current mental health functioning, identify any areas of concern, and provide recommendations to support stability and success during and after the transition.

These evaluations typically include a comprehensive clinical interview, review of mental health and medical history, and standardized psychological measures. The assessment focuses on areas such as emotional functioning, stress tolerance, trauma history, mood and anxiety symptoms, sleep, cognitive functioning, and overall psychological readiness. The evaluation also considers how past experiences—including deployments, operational stress, and life transitions—may impact current functioning.

The goal of a pre-PCS evaluation is not to create barriers, but to ensure that service members receive appropriate support and care. When needed, recommendations may include ongoing therapy, medication management, stress management strategies, or coordination with medical or behavioral health providers at the new duty station to ensure continuity of care.

Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy

Dr. Phan brings extensive training and clinical experience in the treatment of anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), mood and bipolar disorders, and trauma-related conditions. Her work is grounded in evidence-based behavioral therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), which are widely recognized as gold-standard treatments for anxiety and OCD. She also incorporates Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based trauma therapy recognized by the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA), to help patients safely process and resolve traumatic experiences that may continue to affect emotional and nervous system functioning.

In addition to these structured approaches, Dr. Phan has found that the most meaningful and sustainable change often emerges through mindful, acceptance-based work. She integrates mindfulness-based skills and principles from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help patients develop a more compassionate, flexible, and effective relationship with their internal experiences. Rather than focusing solely on eliminating distress, this approach helps individuals build the capacity to tolerate discomfort, respond to fear with greater confidence, and move forward in ways that align with their values and goals.

Dr. Phan’s work emphasizes helping patients “lean into” difficult emotional experiences with greater awareness and resilience, reducing avoidance and restoring a sense of control and stability. Through EMDR and behavioral therapies, patients are able to process underlying trauma, reduce anxiety and emotional reactivity, and strengthen their ability to navigate life’s challenges.

At her core, Dr. Phan practices from a behavioral therapy framework, with a strong emphasis on equipping each individual with practical, personalized tools they can use independently. Her goal is for every patient to develop their own coping toolkit—skills that empower them to regulate emotions, manage stress, and live a more stable, fulfilling, and meaningful life long after treatment ends. Her approach is collaborative, compassionate, and deeply respectful of each patient’s unique experiences and path toward healing.

Medication Evaluation &  Management
Medication Evaluation & Management

Dr. Phan is proud to be one of the pioneer Prescribing Psychologists in Colorado. Medication evaluation management with a Prescribing Psychologist offers a uniquely comprehensive and integrated approach to mental health care. With advanced training in both psychotherapy and clinical psychopharmacology, a Prescribing Psychologist understands how biological, psychological, and behavioral factors work together to influence overall functioning and symptom presentation. This allows medication decisions to be made within the full context of your personal history, therapy progress, and treatment goals. Because therapy and medication management are provided within the same framework, care is more coordinated, efficient, and personalized.

Dr. Phan provides comprehensive psychiatric medication evaluation and management as part of an integrated behavioral medicine approach. She specializes in the psychopharmacological treatment of anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), ADHD, mood and bipolar disorders, and trauma-related conditions for adolescents and adults. Her prescribing approach is thoughtful, evidence-based, and tailored to each individual’s unique neurobiology, symptoms, and treatment goals.

Medication management is collaborative and personalized. Dr. Phan works closely with patients to select medications that are both effective and well-tolerated, with careful attention to minimizing side effects and optimizing long-term outcomes. She provides ongoing monitoring, education, and adjustments as needed to ensure treatment remains aligned with each patient’s evolving needs.

Her psychopharmacology practice reflects a deep understanding of how medications can support the brain’s capacity for regulation, healing, and resilience. Medication may help reduce symptoms such as persistent anxiety, intrusive thoughts, mood instability, emotional reactivity, sleep disturbance, and difficulty with focus and regulation—creating the stability necessary for meaningful therapeutic work, including CBT, ERP, ACT, and EMDR, to be more effective.

Dr. Phan approaches medication as one component of a comprehensive treatment plan. Her goal is not simply symptom reduction, but to help patients achieve lasting stability, improved functioning, and a greater sense of wellbeing. When integrated with psychotherapy and behavioral strategies, medication can be a powerful tool in supporting recovery and restoring balance.

Her approach is careful, compassionate, and grounded in both clinical expertise and respect for each patient’s individual experience, empowering patients to make informed decisions and feel confident in their treatment.
